This quintessential home in the Hamptons got a design makeover that makes it more than just a fabulous vacation h0me: It has enough space and utility to serve as a full-time residence for extended periods like the one experienced during the pandemic.

Architecture

Located on an amazing plot surrounded by ponds, the Bridgehampton home has all the easy luxury you would expect from a house in this storied part of Long Island. Created by Jessica Shaw, Director of Interior Design with Turett Collaborative, the contemporary home is open and airy with a chic sense of relaxation. The five-bedroom residence is typically used as a getaway for a family from Manhattan.

The floor-to-ceiling entryway is both serene and dramatic, with its all-white walls and unique lighting fixture made up of dozens of small round discs suspended from the two-story area. The foyer space is grounded by a circular rug done in gradations of blue, echoing the sky and water of the area. Open in multiple directions, the round foyer offers views not only into the rooms but out to the yard and pool beyond. All of the rooms on the main level are accented with spare elements of nature, such as branches and plants that are typically found around the seaside.

The classy sophisticated blue and white living room has a touch of coastal ambiance without being at all clichéd. A unique silhouette makes the reupholstered curved sofa the centerpiece of the room while a custom chandelier by Lindsey Adelman is suspended in the center of the space. A white base palette, combined with the harmonious shades of blue create a cool and calming space that never feels cold. The well-edited decor is not at all fussy and feels very relaxed.

The spacious, light-filled formal dining room has the same ethereal feeling that the other rooms have, thanks to the hints of gentle blue and the banks of windows and French doors that offer up great views of the yard. A long, wooden table anchors the room and is paired with enough blue-tinged leather chairs for a crowd. To maintain the open and airy feeling, the sideboard floats above the floor on a wall accented by a covering that hints at a landscape of trees.  Two bubbly chandeliers over the table draw attention and provide dramatic nighttime lighting.

Super functional, the spacious kitchen has anything the gourmet cook would want, from a professional range to a large refrigerator and double dishwashers. The large central island features some seating and a prep sink. Above, avant-garde light fixtures add a bit of unexpected quirkiness to the space.

A more casual family room is made for relaxing with a large sectional sofa, billowy roman shades and a modern ceiling fan to spread the fresh breezes throughout the space. The overall palette is neutral but still includes a hint of blue in the soft window shades.

The beachy off-white and blue palette flows through to the sunroom, which is ideal for family time, day or night. The off-white sofa and chairs are simple and super casual without being slouchy. The entire space is focused around the sleek fireplace and big-screen television for enjoyment throughout the seasons. A ceiling fan is also included to help keep the space comfortable. In warm weather, accordion glass panels can be fully opened to dissolve the barrier between this space and the outdoor covered patio, instantly expanding the area available for entertaining.

Bathrooms in the home are sleek and modern, offering up rainfall showers, ample lighting and easy-care surfaces. While these elements are essential for a getaway home, they also make full-time living very fuss-free.

Even in the bedrooms, the blue and white palette has been carried throughout the spaces in a manner that never feels overdone. A blue child’s bedroom and third loft bedroom have the requisite water-inspired colors but also distinctly different personalities. The shades of blue are quite gentle, with the exception of the pop of color from the window bench that sports bolder hues. The play area is distinguished by bold colors on the rug and as well as some parts of the built-in seating/storage units. This design is ideal for a play space because it has plenty of open space, a sturdy low table and concealed storage to stash the toys at clean-up time.

An adult bedroom takes the blue theme to a deeper level with a rich textures accent wall in a variegated style. Nightstands done in dark cobalt add drama while the rest of the space is light and white, with just hints of blue in the textiles throughout. We love how just a single, small orange vase provides a dramatic pop of color against the otherwise blue and white space.

Yet another bedroom sports the same palette with a completely different look. Predominantly done in washed shades that skirt the divide between blue and gray, the space is quietly sophisticated, an ideal vibe for a Hamptons home. The way the large rug echoes the shades of the sky outside the window is a masterful connection with the outdoors.

A completely serene retreat, the spacious master bedroom can also double as a home office during the extended stays. This airy room also features shades of blue but with a distinguishing touch of tan, used for the natural-looking window treatments. These roman shades are made with a fabric that hints at the water rippling on the shore, but also provides enough cover to block most of the light. The furnishings have a light visual footprint to prevent a heavy feeling.

The master bathroom is bright and white, letting light reflect throughout. The centerpiece is this magnificent jetted tub that focuses on the landscape. Large windows also look out onto a private terrace for more enjoyment of the view. Multiple rectangular mirrors line the vanity area and the thin, architectural frames are the perfect accent without being distracting. Finally, the basketweave tile floor adds a bit of subtle visual interest.

Of course, the outdoors are a major attraction in a Hamptons home and this one has plenty of space for family and friends. An expansive wood deck has a full outdoor kitchen, complete with sink, grill and refrigerator. Two white tables and easy-care wooden chairs complement the house’s exterior. The deck also offers great views of the pond landscape and overlooks a square swimming pool below.

This is a spectacular Hamptons home that offers ups loads of relaxing spaces with amazing design flair. Not only is it a great home for relaxing and entertaining, but it has everything to make it a wonderful full-time home as well.
