Europe is one of the most popular summer vacation destinations for North Americans, and for good reason. Even though it can get scorching hot there’s something about the history, culture, and food that make it a magical travel destination.
European women have earned a reputation for looking well put together. No matter the weather you can count on them to step out the door looking effortlessly presentable. They are known for their chic and effortless style, which is often described as timeless and classic. They tend to invest in high-quality, versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of outfits. When you visit, you don’t need to be fancy, but some effort is required.
Follow my 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 packing method to avoid overpacking. Whether you’re travelling for one week or four you can build the perfect European capsule wardrobe. The general key is five tops, four bottoms, three dresses, three shoes, two bags, two jackets. Feel free to play around with these ratios.
It’s often one of my goals to dress like locals and not stand out as a tourist. So it’s with this in mind that I put together my capsule wardrobe for Europe in summer. Whether you’re visiting London, Paris, Lisbon, or Prague you’ll be comfortable and stylish.

If you’re planning a summer vacation in Europe, you’ll want to pack clothing that is comfortable, versatile, and appropriate for the local culture and climate. Here are some tips for what to include in your suitcase.
Light Layers
While summers in Europe can be hot, the temperature can also drop at night, so it’s a good idea to pack some light layers. A light cardigan or jacket and a scarf can be great options.
Dresses and skirts
Summer is the perfect time to wear dresses and skirts, which are both comfortable and stylish. Look for pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. A satin slip dress is a great option that can really flexible.
Shorts and pants
Depending on where you’re traveling in Europe, shorts may or may not be appropriate. It’s always a good idea to research the local culture and dress appropriately. Longer length trouser shorts are especially popular this year. For pants, lightweight and breathable fabrics like linen or cotton are great options.
Swimsuit
If you’re planning to hit the beach or pool, don’t forget to pack a swimsuit or two. A cover-up or sarong can also be a great addition for when you’re not in the water.
Comfortable shoes
Europe is known for its cobblestone streets, so it’s important to pack comfortable shoes that you can walk in for hours. Sneakers or sandals with good support are great options.
Accessories
To elevate your outfits, pack some accessories like sunglasses, hats, and jewelry. A crossbody bag can also be a great option for keeping your hands free while exploring.
Bonuses to Beat the Heat
It’s no secret it gets hot in Europe in the summer months. To beat the heat, pack a few of these extras in your day bag:
