Christmas On the Upstairs Landing

Christmas spilled into upstairs this year.

It started downstairs in the living room and hopped over to the dining room and leapt up the stairs with bows and velvet and evergreens.

And just when you thought it was done?

It landed smack in the middle of the upstairs landing.

My mother used to have a tree right here and I was waiting until I got my Christmas feet underneath me before I decorated this area.

This is the year for a little more merry and bright upstairs.

Want to take a tour?

Oh, good.

I have a few decorating ideas including the ONE THING every Christmas tree needs this year.

Let’s GO.

Here’s a glimpse of the upstairs landing as you come up the stairs.

The stairs actually start at the bottom and wind around right by this entire wall of mirrors with a landing and built-in window seat in the middle.

And when you get to the top?

There’s a small landing where we added these built-in bookcases that were made from cabinets and plywood.

Here’s the view from the top.

There was just enough space to tuck a tree in the corner.

I LOVE THIS TREE so much. We got it at Walmart and the branches are full and have several different types of evergreens mixed in. When my husband was putting it together he kept telling me how much he liked it (and he never comments on Christmas trees.) You know I am all about Walmart when it comes to Christmas shopping. I shared some of my finds earlier in the year and they have the BEST selection and creative affordable options for Christmas decor.

It comes with pre-strung lights. I have it set to clear lights, but it has a multi-colored bulb option, too. This tree is 6.5 inches tall and so full and looks really high-end.

It’s such a great value for the price and you can see it here.

This set of ornaments comes with 50 different pieces that look vintage (but they are totally shatterproof).

The Santa was my favorite, but there are Christmas trees and bells and stockings and wreaths and mittens and more.

And the entire set was under $15.

You can see it here.

I paired it with this pretty blue and white embroidered tree skirt with red piping.

I also love this tree skirt option with its red snowflakes.

This tree crate is another good option I found for the tree in our bedroom.

And look at these matching blue and white stockings with embroidered snowflakes.

They match the tree skirt and I love the mix of blue and white.

You can see them here.

The star at the top of the tree is gold tinsel and lights up with LED lights.

But the real star of the show?

These climbing elves here and here.

Y’all.

They climb up and down the ladder in time with Christmas music. You plug them in and watch them go. They have a little string of lights in their backpack and they go all the way down to the bottom and then step by step they come up to the top and then back down again.

It reminds me of something out of a Christmas movie and they are so sweet and vintage and athletic all at the same time.

See what I mean?

All that cute Christmas decor needed a home. It’s so vintage and fun and festive and merry and bright. It needed a little Christmas space to call its own.

And the upstairs was perfect.

I can’t wait to tell my mother that her space is decorated again.

She’ll be so proud. 🙂
